Apples have been proven to be antibiotic against various bacteria.; one french physician that claimed that even typhoid fever (which is a streptococcus) cannot live in apple juice.

Apples contain pectin, which natural healers have used to remove heavy metals from the body, such as lead, mercury, arsenic, copper toxicity. Pectin also reduces blood cholesterol by binding with bile acids, therefore decreasing the absorption of cholesterol and fat in the small intestine. Pectin is also shown to slow the absorption of sugars and carbohydrates in the intestine, slowing the rise of blood sugar and increasing energy levels. People who have blood sugar problems, can therefore benefit from using a simple medicine—apples.

Apples contain malic and tartaric acids, which neutralize an acid body and assist in food digestion. The sugars in a ripe apple are practically predigested food, which will pass into the blood quickly. Apples are one of the most easiest foods to digest. If you have a weak digestive system you can peel your apple but it is most beneficial to eat the apple in the whole.

Fresh unsweetened apple juice can reduces the acidity of the stomach and prevent fermentation in the digestive tract. In most countries where the unsweetened cider is used, kidney stones are unheard off. If you suffer from constipation, ripe juicy apples eaten before bed can cure some of the most stubborn cases. Sour apples—those with a higher proportion of pectin work best for this purpose. Sour apples eaten at bedtime is said to also help sleeplessness and liver toxicity. If your children want a bed time snack give them an apple which will leave their teeth clean from both the gentle acids in the fruit and the mechanical action of biting the apple.
